Description of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel The
Cavalier is a true toy spaniel, weighing between 13 and 18 pounds and about 12
to 13 inches tall at the shoulder. They descended from the Toy Spaniels of
Europe and first appeared in the courts of England with the reign of Queen Mary.
The breed received its name from King Charles II. Cavaliers
are fun to show in the breed ring but are also excellent obedience and agility
competitors. They also make wonderful therapy dogs delighting many in nursing
homes and healthcare centers. Fearless and sporting in nature, yet gentle
and affectionate; a Cavalier will thrive as an integral part of family life
