Cavalier King Charles Club of Hawaii:  March 2007 Newsletter

By Kaye Walsh, President

PO Box 628, Kaaawa, HI 96730  (808) 237-8472

Greetings Club Members, the new directors are working on some great activities for 2007 and dates to put on your calendar right now are:

April 14, SaturdayEasy hike/walk from the bottom of the (“Really”) Old Pali Road (unused by cars)
from the Kaneohe side.

This is an easy walk/hike with a slow gain and you can walk as high up the old unused paved road as you and your Cavaliers wish. We will meet at 8:30 while it is still cool and have a fun walk with the dogs. No cars, lots of shade and the views as you walk up the old road are wonderful. This is what I call a “reward hike” because of the great views and is easy on everyone.

The map below shows the location, just off the H-3 in Kaneohe. Take the road to the Koolau Golf Club, don’t turn in at the golf course and just continue up the roadway. It is about a mile from Kam Highway. We park on the side of the road next to the maintenance yard for the Pali Golf Course and step through an old fence. Call me if you have any questions.

We could also use a volunteer to stay at the bottom and check people in and out, a good opportunity to see everyone even if you don’t want to walk.
Let me know if you can attend.

May 12/13, Saturday and Sunday
Participation as a Club with a booth at Pet Expo, Blaisdale Center. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet new and potential Cavalier owners, talk about our wonderful breed and show off your dog to the passers by. The show runs from 10 to 4 both days and we are looking for members to volunteer to spend some time in the booth. The more members we have, the less time required for each person to be in the booth. We already have some volunteers. Please either call me or email me if you can spend some time in the booth on one of those days. We are covered pretty well on Saturday, but additional help for either day is always welcome.

We are preparing a brochure to hand out to potential members with information on the breed and on the Club, we will have a slide show on a notebook computer continually running to show pictures of our dogs and our past events and we would like to put together a large display board with pictures from each of you to show off our “Cavalier Ohana”. Please either forward to me by email or a 3x5 hard copy print of your Cav with full & call names, or better, a picture with you and your Cav(s) for the display board.

June 9, Saturday – Potluck & Cavalier Playday at Moanalua Community Park and Regional Dog Park – 11:00AM to 3:00 PM    We will set up our tents and chairs on one of the open “ballfields” under the huge old trees where we will have our meeting and potluck (dogs allowed in this part of the park on leash) and then as members wish, they can walk across to the enclosed official dog park for some offleash play. The parks are easy to get to, centrally located and the official enclosed dog park has shade, water and tables (but no food allowed inside). The Johnsons are having renovations to their home this summer, but will welcome us back when it’s all done. We have a permit from the Parks Department as we did for our December meeting, so we will be all official.

Puppies available
One of  our members, Win Schoneman, has three beautiful nine month old male puppies looking for wonderful loving homes. Following is some information furnished by Win. You can call him at 486-9269.

“We have three Cavaliers for adoption.  All are on limited AKC registration.

All have had regular vet visits, are micro chipped and " All are in good health (adopters can have their vet check or we go to Aloha Animal Hospital in Kahala).  All have wonderful dispositions.  Both Jerry and Nova are tender and loving; Dougie is more independent but still has a quiet loving disposition. First is Ladyshere Jernel's Joy or we call him Jerry.  He is the Ruby. Second we have Ladyshere Chris' Casanova or we call him Nova. Third is Ladyshere Dougie's Delight or Dougie. Prices are negotiable; the important thing to us is a good and loving home.  We do have a contract.”
