If you haven't already sent in your dues for 2008, please do so as you won't want to miss any of our activities coming up this year. Send to the Club at PO Box 628, Kaaawa, HI 96730. Dues are $25 per adult and $5 per junior.

Let's Take a Cavalier Walk - Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2008 at 4:00 PM

Below are a map and a Google link to the Kawainui Neighborhood Park which leads to an absolutely flat walking path by the Kawainui Marsh in Kailua. This is an official path on which dogs are allowed as they have a dog "cleanup" station right on the edge of the parking lot for your filled baggies. There is a paved parking lot with plenty of marked spaces and a small grassy park right at the end of Kaha Street. We will be there by 3:30 PM with a cooler box, cold water and sodas. We can start the walk by 4:00 PM after we have all had to chance to say Hi and get the Cavs settled. This is an out and back walk, so members can walk as far as they wish (up to four miles!) and then back. By starting late on a Sunday afternoon, it won't be hot as this is an unshaded path, but we can enjoy each other's company for a couple of hours and be done long before dark. See you all then. We will have our cell phones with us. Let me know if you are coming so I will have an idea of how many drinks to bring.

From town come over the Pali Hwy straight down Kailua Road to the middle of town, turn left on Oneawa Street, then just before the canal turn left to Kaha Street and the parking lot is at the end of the street.

Pet Expo - Blaisdell Center - Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, 2008

We are going to have a booth again at Pet Expo and we need volunteers to man the booth either on Saturday or Sunday with their Cavalier(s). Those of us who were in the booth last year had such a great time and the Cavs really seemed to enjoy being fussed over. Even dogs that their owners thought were shy were right up there on the bench being oohed and aahed over. Let me know if you would be willing to help man the booth, either for an hour or preferably two, which day you would like and either morning or afternoon. We will wear our club logo shirts (I still have a few shirts and would like to sell them so we can place a new order - if you are interested send me an email and I will let you know what we have on hand.) and have folders to give to really interested guests. I have our picture board from last year, but if you are a new member, send me a digital picture of your Cavalier so I can add some new dogs to our Cavalier Ohana.

Mock Cavalier Specialty Day, Potluck and General Meeting - Saturday, June 28, 2008 - 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM - Waikiki Playground (just off Kapiolani Park)

Let's have our own fun day for all those beautiful Cavaliers who for one reason or another aren't in the official Show Ring! They are all so wonderful, we want to make each one think they are special. We have been issued an official permit to use the park. We have held several affairs at this park, it is centrally located and lots of free parking. We will have our usual potluck lunch and then we are going to put all our Cavaliers in one meet or another.

We are fortunate to have Summer and Megan Commander, who are both successful junior handlers, to act as our "Show Stewards" and will also give a conformation demonstration, discussion and informal lessons on showing your Cavalier before ring time. Their Cavaliers are such handsome Champions and can perhaps make you consider showing your own Cavalier in the official kennel club shows or perhaps interest some of your children in becoming junior handlers. I'm working on getting a really good judge for our "mock" meet. We will ask all those members who have Cavaliers with ring experience to go first together in the ring to show us all how they should look. You will be amazed at how differently and well behaved they are in the ring than when they are just playing with their friends.

We will have official rings set up and use our tents and tables just as they do for kennel club shows and have a lot of fun. There will be LOTS of beautiful ribbons, so there will be MANY chances to win a ribbon with your Cavalier! In addition to the normal classes culminating with Best of Breed, we will also have fun classes such as "Best Cavalier over 20 Pounds!", "Best Cavalier Over Ten Years Old", "Cutest Puppy Under Nine Months". Now of course, this means ALL Cavaliers can be entered, neutered or not, so if you can think of some additional fun classes that we can award ribbons for, just send me an email. Let me know if you will attend, what kind of food you will bring, and let me know the name of each Cavalier and what group he or she should be entered in. We will keep it quick for each class and fun (you can even yell out to the judge who your favorite is! - no stuffy dog shows for us!). We won't have an open fire, so it will be strictly potluck and the club will provide paper products and cold drinks as usual.

Halloween Bash at the Beach, Costume Contest and Annual Meeting - October, 2008

We have a new member of the club (Wait till you see this puppy!) who has a house on the beach in Laie and is willing to host us for the Second Halloween Bash. That party was such a success! More details to follow later this year but wanted you to have a head's up to start thinking about those costume ideas.

Remember that we are always looking for ideas for activities and hikes or walks that any member knows about and would like to suggest. Just send me an email.
