December 30, 2005 Newsletter: Hau’oli Makahiki Hou Founding
Members of the
Congratulations Founding Members, our final numbers are in, we have 69
Founding Members, including eight Junior Founding Members and $l,590
in dues and donations deposited in our account at Bank of Hawaii.
With such a great start for our Club, we should have an outstanding first
year! The
Board had its first meeting on December 10 and many things were discussed which
we urge all members to think about, make choices, and plan their participation
to make this a fun and exciting Club for all of you and especially your
Cavaliers. We
have established the first of the Standing Committees and we welcome suggestions
for additional committees. This is
only a preliminary list, so please review, decide on which committees you would
like to serve and contact the Chairman at the email addresses listed.
Please send suggestions for additional committees (and if you would be
willing to serve on them) to Kaye Walsh, Secretary, at brianandkaye@walsh.net
to be included in discussions at the next Board Meeting. Standing
Committees: Frank
Yamashita, President, F499213@aol.com
will chair the all-important Events Committee overseeing, providing
assistance and advice as needed. This Committee will have at least the following
subcommittees:
Other
committees are: Education:
Herman Libarios, Chairman wailibzoo@hotmail.com Olinda Amtsberg amtsberg@msn.com
and Kap Richards kapr@hawaii.rr.com,
Members Subcommittees:
Rescue:
Kap Richards, Chairman kapr@hawaii.rr.com
Communications:
Kaye Walsh, Chairman brianandkaye@walsh.net
Social:
Melanie Johnson, Chairman melaniesandiego@hotmail.com Please
call Melanie at 235-9007 if you would like to help with our first big potluck.
The
Directors have approved a form of Membership Certificate and we will have them
printed and ready to distribute at our next General Membership Meeting. We
want to welcome our newest officer and director to the Club, Darlene Tsubota
enelradk9s@verizon.net
, who will also serve as Vice President. You may have
seen her with those winning Cavaliers at one of the most recent shows.
We
are looking for the artists in our Club to compete for a logo design for the
Club. It can be round or square (or
no shape at all really), but it should be able to be printed and easily read in
a size about 4 inches by 4 inches or 4 inches round.
Once we have decided on a logo, we will have shirts printed, one for each
Founding Member, with most of the cost subsidized by the Club. We will have
additional shirts printed in the future, but there will never be any more
Founding Member shirts. The words
“Founding Member” will be printed beneath the new logo one time only.
Please submit all designs to Kaye Walsh, Secretary, brianandkaye@walsh.net.
The Directors will then get together, pick the top three or so designs
and put it out for a vote by the Members.
We
now need everyone to ponder and come up with a domain name for our website.
Let’s make it fun, but no more than about 15 characters.
We could always do CavalierClubof
HI, but
someone can probably come up with something much better.
It should be searchable so that anyone looking for a Cavalier club to
join in Hawaii would find us. Again
submit suggestions as above and the final selections will be put out to the
Members to decide. We
will establish a website which will have newsletters, a photo album to post
pictures of your cute dogs, meeting dates, a calendar of upcoming events such as
our Club events, AKC shows, activities at Thomas Square, etc., links to other
pages for health and education information and any other items of interest
suggested by the members. We have
several people interested in helping with the website and we hope to make it fun
and interesting for everyone.
Sometime
as early in 2006 as the weather will permit a somewhat guaranteed good day, we
have all been invited by Dr. and Mrs. Gary Johnson to have a potluck with all
our dogs at their home in Haiku Plantation, Kaneohe.
They have a completely walled in home, and the dogs can safely run free.
It should be a great afternoon. Stay
tuned for the date and details.
We have started a database with all our Member information, addresses, numbers, etc. and we would now like to start collecting information on any dogs you would like to have listed in the directory for the Club. Send information to Kaye Walsh, Secretary, brianandkaye@walsh.net

Finally, please send your suggestions to
any of the people listed above for matters that you would like to Club to
address such as specific health issues, proper breeding, grooming, training for
events, etc. We plan to have
speakers at General Membership Meetings who can help you keep those Cavaliers
healthy, happy and beautiful!
Remember, this is your Club; we know you are all enthusiastic, want to have fun and be more informed about the breed. The more you participate, the more fun you will have and the smarter you will be!! Kaye Walsh, Secretary |
